Split, Hvar & Dubrovnik – Sept 2022

DAY 1 – Split, (Sat 24th Sept 2022)
Enjoying the fact we had a mid afternoon flight, it gave us time to drive our car over to the in-laws in East Croydon, park up and make our way over to Luton Airport for 12:30pm. Our flight was at 2:50pm and departed with no dramas and we landed in Split around 6:20pm.
Our accommodation offered us a pick-up service for €40, however we decided that it would probably be cheaper to use Uber (I’d checked in advance that Uber was available in Croatia), however to our shock, both our phones weren’t working and neither of us could access Uber’s app. Much to our annoyance we ended up getting a taxi from the airport taxi rank which set us back €52.
* The EU have given Croatia the green light to begin using the euro from 2023. At present their currency is the Croatian Kuna, however in preparation, the majority of prices listed are in both Kuna and euros. At the time of writing this blog, 10 Kuna = £1.18 – £1.20 / €1.33
Before we left the UK we’d been in touch with our accommodation to let them know that we’d be arriving after their reception closed and so they were really good and sent us all the key codes etc. We were staying at Evala Luxury Rooms with pool and garden. A little more expensive than what we normally go for, but wow it was so worth it. The accommodation was absolutely beautiful, our bedroom was really nicely decorated and it was great that we had a pool and hot tub to use (until 10pm which we thought was very generous).
After dumping our bags, we headed out to the old town for dinner, instantly seeing the beauty of the place. We ended up having dinner at Kavana Central which was OK. Lee loved his ham and truffle pasta dish (however could have done with more) and I quite liked my fish platter, however I was disappointed that it was literally just a plate of fish and seafood…no side, no garnish and no seasoning. These two meals, a bottle of wine and a tip set us back 600kn (£70) which we thought was a little on the expensive side for what it was. Both still a little hungry on our way home we grabbed a slice of pizza each which was delicious.
DAY 2 – Split, (Sun 25th Sept 2022)
As we’d sadly anticipated, we woke up to shitty weather, however knowing that it was pretty much going to be that way the whole time we were there, we didn’t have much choice but to get out and explore, so we headed down to the harbour.
Keen for some breakfast and a break from the rain, we headed back into the heart of the old town and went to NoStress Bistro for Eggs Benedict, recommended to us by Rose the owner of our accommodation. The food was good, but we couldn’t say the same for the service. Our waiter was so miserable, it was actually quite comical.
Seeing a few people walk past us with Zara bags, we decided to head there ourselves to buy Lee a rain coat. It was actually really funny to see that we weren’t the only ones, everywhere you looked people were picking up and trying on coats. Lee’s mood instantly picked up as soon as he was warm and dry (well his top half at least, he was still in shorts and flip flops).
